Rain Ready CA

Let's Get Rain Ready!

During the rainy season, pollutants around our homes, streets, and neighborhoods can be picked up by rain and carried into nearby storm drains, which lead directly to creeks and rivers. These pollutants can harm fish, wildlife and the quality of our waterways. Some examples of harmful pollutants include trash, bacteria from pet waste, pesticides and fertilizers that are used in landscapes, and motor oil from car leaks. By being Rain Ready, we can keep our streets clean and protect our waterways by taking these simple actions:

  • Avoid littering - Toss waste in a trash bin.
  • Sweep up leaves and trash around storm drains.
  • If you have a pet, scoop their poop, bag it up, and toss it in the trash can. Bring pet waste bags for walks.
  • Cut back on yard chemicals like pesticides and fertilizers.
  • If you have an oil spill around your home, use an absorbent to soak up the oil, sweep it into a bag, and toss it in the trash.
